I’ve had my eyes on Marley’s Monsters products for, at least, a couple of years now. Marley’s Monsters is based in Eugene, Oregon and everything is handmade. They make reusable products from fabrics. I’ve been using Swiffer products for years. The dry mop and the dusters are great, right? Well, not really. Obviously, they make single-use products. Plus, their mop and their duster handle are cheaply made of plastic (not to mention, they are NOT cruelty-free). I’ve had a bulk box of them for years that I still have yet to get through. I’ll probably end up giving the cloths and duster cloths to friends and family. So what’s the reusable alternative? Marley’s Monsters.
I have three of their products: the sponge, the washable duster, and the cleaning cloth. (My mom has their unpaper towels and has been loving them)! I’ve been using the sponge for a few months and I really like it! Something that’s unique to this brand is that you can choose the prints for most of their products. They have a wide selection of flannel prints that they use. So, naturally, I chose their lemon print for my sponge. Not that it matters, but I wanted it to look cute in my kitchen because… why not? I actually like this better than a normal sponge! It’s really easy to scrub off grime from dirty dishes. I still have cleaning brushes for dishes and bottles, but it’s nice to have this as well.
I bought two of their washable dusters (in case one is in the wash). They use a black or an ivory base and mix it with different flannel prints. It definitely does the job as well as a Swiffer duster…but, I’m also helping the planet! It’s a great way to reduce my waste while still sticking to what I know. They sell a handle for this on their website, but I opted out of buying it. Since I already had the Swiffer duster handle, it’s more sustainable to keep using that rather than buying something new. Overall, it’s easy to use, there’s no learning curve, and I just throw it in the washing machine when I’m done.
Will the reusable cleaning cloth measure up to Swiffer’s dry mop cloths? Well, yes. That’s the simple answer. One side of the cleaning cloth is scrubby while the other side is fluffy (and perfect for catching dust, might I add). It works just as well if not better than the Swiffer cloths. I’m still using the Swiffer dry mop (because, again, that’s more sustainable than buying a new mop), but it works great! I’m really surprised how much I like it. It’s, also, not specifically designed for a mop. It can be used really for any type of cleaning. (You know I can’t resist a good multi-use product)!
To be honest, years ago, I really liked the idea of throwing away the single-use cleaning products. I mean why would I want to deal with washing something that’s gross and full of dust or grime? It was an easy and convenient way to know my place was clean. But now that I’m trying to be more conscious of the waste I create, this is such an easy and convenient swap! Some zero waste and eco-friendly swaps take extra time and energy. But these Marley’s Monsters products are just like their single-use counterparts, except I have the ability to wash and reuse them. It’s also crazy to think about the amount of money I’d be spending overtime, if I kept using the single-use items! Overall, I think these are great products that actually do the job!
